ON SOAPNET
SoapNet has picked up
exclusive rights to all 13 seasons of classic CBS sudser "Dallas"
from Warner Bros. Domestic Cable Distribution.
The popular primetime soap will air weekdays beginning Sept.
8 during daytime.
Deal marks the third acquisition the
cabler has made within a year. SoapNet picked up Aaron Spelling's
1980s soap staple "Dynasty" in October and Procter
& Gamble-owned serial "Another World" in May.
"For us, it's a very large acquisition.
'Dallas' is the emblematic soap," SoapNet general manager
Deborah Blackwell said. "It not only broadens and enriches
our offerings, but it's something our viewers have been asking
for since day one."
"World" and "Dallas"
highlight the Disney-owned cabler's commitment to adding non-ABC
soaps to its slate.
"We want to get the best daytime
shows and the best of the classic soaps from any network,
not just ABC," Blackwell said.
Last month, SoapNet posted a 0.7 rating
in women 18-49, making it the No. 6 basic cable net in its
target demo.
"Dallas" debuted in 1978
and chronicled the saga of the dysfunctional Ewing family.
Skein garnered most publicity for its "Who Shot J.R.?"
cliffhanger in season two.
"Dallas," starring Larry
Hagman, Patrick Duffy, Linda Gray and Victoria Principal,
was created by David Jacobs and produced by Leonard Katzman,
Lee Rich and Philip Caprice.
