They filmed these episodes on location -real houses, offices. Later seasons were filmed on studio sets, which are built to be quiet.
3. The format of the show seemed to change from self contained to 'soap'
Dallas was originally arried as the 5 episode mini series, each episode was self contained - i.e one episode start and end a story. This continued into the first season. Self contained episodes are easier for the network to sell because they do not have to be broadcast in syndication - if you miss an episode this does not impact the viewers continuity of the show. This format began to change following the episode 'Act of Love' when the character of Sue Ellen discovers she is pregnant. The 1988-89 season attempted to go back to the self contained format but this was short lived.
