Hagman was JR Ewing
What's he been up to?: Hagman received
a wake-up call when he was diagnosed with cirrhosis of the
liver in 1992, and later cancer of the liver in 1995. He was
given a transplant and now, at the age of 71, is a confirmed
Alcoholics Anonymous member and promotes world love and spiritualism
through the Ojai foundation (an 'educational sanctuary').
He
recalls his heavy drinking days whilst he was making Dallas
- but insists it never got in the way of a days' filming.

'I drank four or five bottles of champagne a day, but I never
got drunk or anything,' he tells the programme. 'I just kind
of kept that click going all day.'
He also remembers one of the soap's
most famous storylines, the Who Shot JR? cliffhanger in 1979.
'I was offered $250,000 if I would
divulge who shot me, well I didn't know, but I thought that
would be a real JR thing to do,' he says.
'They shot several people shooting
me. Mamma shot me, Daddy shot me, Patrick shot me, Sue Ellen
shot me, Mary Crosby shot me. And it turned out to be Mary
Crosby. Well, I was having a little affair with her and she
happened to be my wife's sister! But nobody knew at the time
it was made.'
Such was the interest in the JR shooting
that even the Queen inquired about the storyline when Hagman
met her at a Royal Variety Performance. 'She said 'Oh, JR,
I don't suppose you could tell me who shot you?'' he recalls.
'And I said no ma'am, not even you!'
Larry has been married to wife Maj
for 48 years. 'People always ask my wife how do you manage
to keep a marriage going with your husband in the kind of
business he is for 48 years?' he says. 'And she says 'Two
bathrooms'.'
He has also maintained contact with
Linda Gray (Sue Ellen) and the pair remain close. 'I saw her
in The Graduate,' he says. 'She had twenty seconds of being
stark-arse naked on stage, with no funny lights or anything,
just the regular lighting, stripping off and standing there
for twenty seconds stark naked! And it was a sight to behold
let me tell you - she's a really good looking woman.
