EPISODE 16

A New Begining

Silence prevailed as an unearthly white fog clouded the air.  The city hall had been reduced to nothing but rubble of bricks and concrete.  Water dripped down from broken ceilings and there were fires that had broken out burning around the bombsite.  Scattered around the site lifeless bodies lay among them some of Dallas's most influential Oil Dynasty.

The Conference Building

Bobby opened his eyes up and slowly became aware again of his surroundings.  He tried to turn his body but could feel something restricting his movement.   He sat up and could see some timber across his legs as he moved it away and freed himself he looked round and was momentarily stunned by what he saw.  Despite the restricted view due to the smoke that filled the air all around him people were laid either dead or unconscious.

Bobby guessed that there must have been some kind of explosion and quickly his self-preservation instinct kicked in and he jumped up.  He needed to find everybody and get out of here as soon as possible.  His sight slowly adjusting to the darkness and smoke he began to look around him for any sign of life.  He could see a figure laid a few feet away from him and he quickly made his way over to it.  Crouching down he began to move rubble from the person to see whom it was and if they were still alive.  He turned over the body and was confronted with the mask of death.  Carter McKay was dead and Bobby could see this instantly, he felt his legs begin to buckle but steady himself and stood back up.  He looked around him in desperation, where was everyone?

Another part of the Conference Building

The corridor that JR and Sue Ellen had been in had collapsed on top of them and  as they both slowly regained consciousnesses the couple called out to each other.

“JR.”

“I'm here, are you hurt?”

“I don't think so what about you?”

No but I'm trapped under some bricks, what on earth was that?”

“Some kind of explosion, there must have been a bomb planted in the Conference Building, so JR was someone out to kill you again!” she replied.

“Always my fault, isn't it” he replied

Sue Ellen slowly moved her self over to where JR lay.  She looked into his eyes and unexpectedly saw a look of vulnerability in them.  She began to try and free him but to no avail as the debris that had fallen on him was far too heavy.  Su Ellen could hear JR's breathing becoming more restricted and she could feel panic rising up inside of her.

“How long do you think we're going to be trapped in here?” he asked

“Fed up with me already, JR, that didn't take long,”

Sue Ellen said trying to stop them both from panicking.

JR looked at her, for the first times in ages, she was the only person he wanted to be near.

He still didn't understand what was happening to him. After all this time did he really still love her, after everything that had gone before, was she really the only person he wanted to be with. Strangely enough the answer to those questions was ‘yes' He reached for her hand and squeezed it gently, saying.

“No, I'm not fed up with you, I just don't know how secure this building is and I would like us both to get out of here alive?”

“We will, don't you worry, everything is going to be just fine.”

Sue Ellen stroked JR ‘s face as he slowly began to close his eyes.

A Dallas Police Station

“Mrs Ewing, how long are you going to keep up this silence?"

Alison Stannard had been questioning Pamela for over an hour, her lawyer had been called away and so far Mrs Ewing had continued to answers questions unattended, however she was getting frustrated with the fact that she was still getting nowhere.

“I keep telling you, I know nothing” Pam replied.

“What about the gun?” Alison tried again

“I have no idea how that gun got into my house, I did not kill Anita Smithfield” Pamela said

“Well who did?”

“I have no idea,” Pam answered.

“Where is your son” Alison asked

“Oh for heaven's sake I don't know where he is but I do know that he has nothing to do with this” Pamela said

“He was sleeping with John Ross's wife, maybe he wanted to get rid of the competition,”

“What makes you say he was sleeping with Becky” Pamela asked

“We have ways and means of finding out information”

“John Ross was his cousin, he wouldn't have killed him” Pamela said

“Stranger things have happened in the name of love,” Alison said.  “Didn't your own sister  try to kill your husband, because he wouldn't leave you and go to her?

“My son is not a killer” Pam replied

“How would you know, let's face it you hardly know your son, after all you left him when he was eight years old and then showed up again a few years ago” Alison said

“Go to hell you bitch, I had my reasons for leaving and they are none of you business”

Pam desperately wanted to go home, she knew Christopher wasn't a killer and as for  the gun in her house, that was definitely a plant.

“When can I go home?” she asked

“When I get some proper answers” Alison replied

The Conference Building

Donna could feel something called on the side of her face instinctively she knew it was blood.   She sat up and looked around her, she couldn't see anything due to the heavy smoke.

“Ray” she shouted, but there was no answer.  She stood up, she didn't feel hurt so she began to cautiously move forward in the darkness, she felt her foot hit something and she looked down but couldn't really see what it was that was obstructing her path.  She knelt down again as was filled with horror as she realise that what was blocking her path was the dead body of one of the waitresses.

“Ray!”  Donna shouted again this time more urgently.  Again she began her journey into the darkness when suddenly she heard a noise she moved over to where it came from.  As she stumbled forward she suddenly came towards a section of light but what she saw stopped her in her path.  The noise she had heard was Mavis who was lying semi conscious half covered by wreckage next to her was the body of her husband it was clear by the contortion of his body that Punk was dead.  Donna began to feel terror inside of her rising up and tightening her throat.

“Ray, Ray,” she screamed.

Donna looked at the devastation around her, what had happened, who had done this?  Still she couldn't locate Ray, she shouted louder but still no reply came.  She continued to move carefully in the darkness. Suddenly a flicker of light appeared, she moved towards it. As she became familiar with her surroundings she saw something laying on the ground, she walked over and to her horror discovered a leg. Whose leg was it and was that person still alive? As her eyes became used to the dark she saw someone lying slumped near the door. The person was covered in blood and to her horror it was Ray.   She rushed over to him and realised that the leg she had found belonged to him.

“Ray, can you hear me?” she screamed

There was no reply so she tried again.  This time she tried to control her voice, he couldn't leave her now, they had just found each other again.  She crouched on the ground beside him and felt his pulse. It was still there but very, very weak.

He was covered in blood and she removed her jacket to try and use as a tourniquet to try and stop some of the bleeding.  The worst of the blood came from the wound where his leg had been.  The sight of the missing leg made her feel sick, but she had to be strong,  they had to get through this. All of a sudden Ray opened his eyes:

His voice was weak as he asked, “What happened, where are we?”

“We are in the conference building Ray and there has been some kind of explosion,”

“My leg hurts, I feel real bad Donna.”

She couldn't tell him about what had happened.  Ray looked at her and asked her what was wrong.

“You're injured, I'm just hoping that an ambulance arrives soon,” she answered

She looked at the remaining stump that had once been his leg; it wasn't there so how could it hurt him.  How was he going to react when he found out what had happened.

Ray closed his eyes, he felt tired, so tired in fact he had never felt this tired before.

Donna looked at him anxiously “Ray, wake up, you have to stay awake, you can't go to sleep!” she said

“Donna, I'm so tired, I just need to rest” he replied

“We're going to get out of here, but you have to hang on, you have to stay awake, you can't close your eyes, please don't leave me,” she said.

“Donna, I'm not going anywhere” Ray replied and with that he closed his eyes.

Donna got hold of his shoulders and tried to shake him awake, but it was no use. She felt his pulse it was getting weaker.  How long was it going to be before help arrived?  Ray began to shiver and she realised that he was going into shock, she had to keep him warm, but how there were no blankets around. She went closer to him and held him in her arms trying to warm him up. If the bleeding didn't kill him then shock could. She knew she had to raise his remaining leg, so that blood flow would start to move back towards his heart.  She found a chair and turned it upside down and lifted his leg onto it.  By now he was unconscious, she tried to pull him onto his side. She then lay down beside him.

Bobby continued staggering around the site area, slowly people were beginning to move around and small groups of people were proceeding towards what seemed like the exit area.

Bobby could feel that his leg was injured, he must have been blown a fair distance and landed awkward on his right leg.  He knew that he had been stood with Holly and Mavis, Punk and Lucy but still he hadn't seen any of them.    Suddenly he heard someone call out his name, turning around he saw Tracy's friend Madeline.  The two embraced and hugged tightly for a moment, although almost strangers they were both overwhelmed to see a familiar face.

“How are you?  Are you hurt”! Bobby asked.

“No I think I am okay, but I'm scared I don't know how long this building is going to stay standing, we need to get out of here.”

“I agree but I have got to try and find the rest of my family first.  You should keep heading that way, as that's the way that everyone seems to be going, I guess it must be that way out.”

“No I'm not going with out you, anyway I need to find Tracy and make sure she is okay, we got separated just before the explosion.”

“Okay then we stick together.”

The pair continued their path against the stream of people to look for a familiar face. Gradually Bobby began to recognise certain things around him and knew that he was in the same area that he could remember having last been in before the explosion.  He suddenly spotted Holly and they rushed over to her, she was attending to what looked like a blonde lady, she was crouched over frantically trying to give her mouth-to-mouth.  Bobby toughed Holly on the shoulder and she stopped what she was doing and turned to them both.

“Oh God it not good she's dead.”

Bobby and Madeleine both registered what she had said and as they both looked past Holly they saw the body of a familiar figure on the floor.

Another Part of the Conference Building

JR and Sue Ellen both lay silent holding on to each other, both were deep in thought, aware of the chaos that was going on around and the fact that they were completely trapped.  JR was thinking of John Ross, maybe he would see his son again sooner then he had thought.  He had put him through hell, and he wished he could go back and change history but that was not possible. He thought of his father, everything he did was to make his father proud of him and love him the way he loved Bobby, but it didn't work. JR was not Bobby and Bobby was the favourite son and now his son was dead and maybe he never knew how much he loved him.  He felt Sue Ellen holding on to him and vowed to himself if he ever got out of here alive then he would make sure she knew how much he loved her.  He knew that most of the problems within their marriage had been his fault.  If he hadn't cheated on her, she would never of needed alcohol.   It was a vicious circle, his cheating and her drinking.

“JR what are you thinking?” Sue Ellen asked. Her words jolted him and he was aware of her watching him.

“Us” he said “And John Ross, did you mean it, when you said that you believed he was my son, even before the paternity suit”

“Yes” she said “He had your eyes, and as he got older, your smile”

“I wish you could of told me that before now” JR said

This time it was Sue Ellen who went quiet. She thought back to the time of her son's birth.  The pain she felt at being hurt by both Cliff and JR. The drinking, knowing that she was putting herself and her child at risk.  The car accident that nearly cost her, her life.  Then on seeing her child for the first time, the pain at realising that she was looking into JR's eyes.  The eyes that she had loved so much when her and JR were first together.  The eyes that had always lit up whenever he saw her and yet after they were married everything had changed.  The change in him had hurt her, all she ever wanted was him, not the Ewing money, but he  failed to see that.

“I couldn't JR, I wanted to hurt you as much as you hurt me.  I knew it upset you everything time you looked at him, knowing that it was possible that it was Cliff ‘s child, and I guess, at the time that made me feel better” she said

“How did you feel, after the results of the Paternity Test?” JR asked

“To be honest, part of me wanted to be wrong, and for Cliff to be the father.  That way I could have escaped you, but the paternity test didn't change anything, I knew who my son's father was” she replied

“I remember the moment I first held him” JR said, “I wanted to make up for the times that I had rejected him”

“We both rejected him, JR and now…” Sue Ellen went silent; she couldn't say the words she was about to say.  She couldn't bear to think about the fact that she could no longer see her son, talk to him or touch him.  She missed him so much.

“We weren't the ideal parents, JR, but we both loved our son, I just hope he realised that,”

The past few months had been a nightmare, but today they had managed to come closer than they ever had been. JR wanted things to be different, he wanted to reassure Sue Ellen that this time she was the only woman he wanted in his life. Their time was running out, he desperately hoped that he could convince Becky to let them have her child. He wanted to make amends of everything in the past.

“Where do we go from here?” JR asked

Sue Ellen looked at him and smiled at the vulnerability she saw there.

“We get out of here and live happy ever after.”

JR smiled faintly and again closed his eyes and drifted off again.  Sue Ellen could feel that he was getting colder and wasn't sure how long they could last with out help.  For the hundredth time she shouted for help, after several minutes exhausted she lay back down next to JR.  Staring into the darkness Sue Ellen began to ponder over things again.  If the truth was known she had never stopped loving JR, but he was so unpredictable. Could he love her and only her or how long would it be before the next beautiful woman walked past him and he decided that he must have her.  She couldn't and wouldn't live her life like that again.  She was still tempted to go to Washington; at least she could start a new life, but what good would that do when her thoughts kept wandering to JR. Even in London she had missed him.

“Dear God get us out of here” Sue Ellen whispered.

Krebbs Ranch

Margaret took the towel from her hair and shook her head and the looked at her self in the mirror; she studied her reflection for a moment and then smiled.   She had just spent the last two hours colouring her natural blonde hair a dark shade of brown and felt very happy with the results.  She wasn't a girl anymore and this new look was to show the world she meant business.  She wandered into the hallway and was just about to head down the stairs when she heard a noise.

She stood silent for a moment she knew that the conference wouldn't be over yet so she should be alone.  Again she heard the definite sound of somebody moving around downstairs.  Creeping back into her bedroom Margaret looked round for a makeshift weapon, the only thing she could find was a shoe with high stiletto heel, again she crept into the hallway and on to the stairs.  As she tiptoed down the stairs a thought entered into her mind, maybe it was Dean who had followed her home and was now waiting downstairs to seduce her again.  Margaret's smiled to her self but a louder bang downstairs snapped her back to reality and now at the bottom of the stairs Margaret took a deep breath and then moved towards the lounge and to where the noise was her coming from.  As she stood in the doorway she could see a man with his back to her bent over the cabinet where the phone was, it looked like he was rooting around probably looking for money Margaret thought. She moved towards him and with all her strength she struck him on the back of the head with the heel of the shoe.  The man grunted and slumped forward slightly and then backwards on to the floor.  Margaret stared at the face of the person on the floor; she was momentarily in shock then suddenly the realisation of whom it was crept up on her.

“Oh God.”

Suddenly another voice broke the silence.

“Hello.”

As Margaret turned around Charlie Wade walked through the main door and then into the lounge.

“Margaret is that you? You look so different, we were beginning to think that..”  Charlie stopped what she was saying as she noticed the body on the floor.

“Lucas?”

As Charlie said his name Lucas Krebs slowly sat up and with a shake of his head gradually began to stand up.

  “What happened?”  Charlie asked again.

Taking in the sight of Margaret in front of him with the stiletto still in her hand Lucas shook his head.

“I think my sister here just try to kill me with her shoe.”

“I though you was an intruder and..”

Suddenly Charlie let out a loud cackling laugh

“Misunderstanding, drama and intrigue, oh God Toto I don't think we are in Kansas anymore, if I'm not mistaking we've landing back in Dallas.

The three of them looked at each other and all fell about laughing.

The Conference Building

Bobby knelt down next to the body of the blonde woman; he looked for a pulse but felt nothing.  He took of his jacket and placed it over the dead body of Tracy McKay. Gathering up Madeleine and Holly whom were both still in shock the group slowly made their way towards the exit area.  As the mass of people moved in a silent convoy through the rubble and smoke, silence prevailed only occasionally broken by a sob or cry.  Out of the blue Lucy and Mavis appeared, Lucy was holding up Mavis in a supportive manner, the two Ewing's hugged.

“Have you seen anyone else?”  Bobby asked.

“Punks dead and Mavis is in complete denial” Lucy whispered, “I haven't seen JR or Sue Ellen or Ray or Donna.  Although I did come across Wendell but he was already dead so I couldn't help him.”

Bobby nodded.  “You need to get to safety, I am going to go back and see if I can find the rest of the family.”

“Leave it to the emergency services now Bobby, there is nothing we can do but keep together and get out of here in one piece.”

“But JR and..”

“No Bobby I am not leaving you, we stick together.” Lucy said  “ I t looks like most people are heading in that direction so lets follow suite.”

Lucy took hold of Bobby's arm and taking hold of Mavis again the group moved forward towards the light and the approaching sound of the emergency services. At last they were at the entrance to the building, Bobby turned around and looked back towards the carnage. Lucy looked at him and said.

“Bobby, what are you thinking?”

“I can't leave the others in there, I've got to go back?” he replied

“Please leave it to the emergency services, they will find them, it's too dangerous in there!” Lucy said

Bobby thought for a moment.  JR and Sue Ellen, Donna and Ray, they were trapped somewhere in that building. Could he really walk away without trying to find them?  What if they were never found? Could he live with the knowledge that they died without him trying to find them?”

“Lucy…I'm going back in there, I have to at least try and find them,” Bobby said

“Bobby, you don't need to be a hero and rescue everyone, let someone with experience do it” Lucy replied

It was too late, Bobby didn't hear her words as he made for the entrance of thebuilding again.  Within seconds he was inside again

A Dallas Police Station

Pam sat alone in the Interview room at the Police station; Alison had left her alone on purpose and was watching her from an adjourning room through a one-way mirror. She was looking for signs of panic, what was she thinking, how would she react to being held there?  Would she give up her son for her freedom? Just what part did she and Christopher play in the murder of Anita Smithfield and John Ross Ewing? A fter ten minutes of watching her she re-entered the room. Placing two cups of coffee on the table she sat down.

Pam looked at her “How long are you going to keep me here?” she asked

“Until you give us some answers,” she replied

“I know nothing about the deaths of Anita Smithfield or John Ross, why don't you go and ask JR Ewing, you can bet he had something to do with that! Pam shouted

“Are you suggesting that JR Ewing would have his own son murdered?” Alison asked

“He's capable of anything” Pam replied.

“Where were you on the day of Anita Smithfield's death?”

“At home” Pam said

  “Can anyone back you up?”

“My son was with me”

“And where is your son now, Mrs Ewing?” Alison asked

“How should I know? She said, “I'm not his keeper!”

“Why are you being so unhelpful, if you haven't got anything to hide?”

“I'm not being unhelpful, I just have no information for you” Pam picked up her coffee and stared into the cup, not wanting to catch Alison's eye.

“The longer you remain uncooperative with us the longer we will keep you here, so why don't you start telling the truth”

The room went silent again, Pamela hated being interrogated, and she felt like she hadbeen set up, what evidence did the police have.

“The gun, Mrs Ewing, can you explain how that was found in your house”

“I don't know I've been set up, probably by your colleagues” she said,

At this point Pamela was feeling tired. She felt so alone, Christopher was never coming home, he was a million miles away, and she and Bobby's relationship was dead. With what JR and Sue Ellen had done to Cliff she felt alienated from the Ewings.  She knew Cliff wasn't perfect but he didn't deserve what has happened to him and she couldn't believe what Sue Ellen had done to Afton, after all the hurt that JR had caused her by cheating on her, she showed Afton the pictures of Cliff with another women, knowing that it would destroy her. Pam once thought of Sue Ellen as a friend but at this moment she felt like her so-called friend had become a stranger. Pam wanted to go home, she wanted to get out of Dallas. What was happening to her? She needed to get away from Dallas; she wished she'd never come back.

Alison looked at Pam, she looked weary, but she had her job to do and Pam knew more than she was letting on.

Pam spoke again.  “I have changed my mind I know I have said I have nothing to hide but I want to wait for my lawyer to return before I answer anymore questions.

“Okay Mrs Ewing, but since Mr Chase is unavailable indefinably then we will have to  put you into a cell until a time that we can restart your questioning.

The Conference Building

Donna lay quietly beside Ray; she could just about hear the faint sound of him breathing. How long would it be before they were rescued?  It seemed hours since the explosion, and she wasn't sure how much longer Ray could survive without treatment. His wound was still bleeding and even though she had managed to stop the worst of it, he was still losing a lot of blood.

“Help!” she screamed again “Help, please get us out of here”

She found the silence uncomfortable.  Why just when things were beginning to look good for her and Ray did this have to happen.  They had a future together, but that was now in doubt, even if Ray survives this, would he still want her, especially when he realised the extent of his injuries. She moved closer to him and put her arms around him, holding him tightly, praying that someone would soon find them.

Outside the Conference Building

Lucy and Mavis waited outside.  Lucy was worried for Bobby; she couldn't believe he had gone back into the building to rescue JR, especially after the way JR treated everyone.

She then remembered that Donna, Ray and Sue Ellen were still trapped in there. She hoped that they would be found alive, but she couldn't feel the same about JR. Lucy felt a hand on her shoulder and turned to find Mavis looking at her.

“Lucy, Bobby will be alright,” she said

Lucy remained quiet finally she said “I know, he just wants to make sure that everyone will get out alive”

He'll find them,” Mavis answered  “Donna, Ray, JR, Sue Ellen and Punk, they are going to be alright”

Lucy closed her eyes; Mavis still was in denial about Punk.  Poor Punk he wasn't coming out of there alive, if only he could have been saved.  If only JR had died instead.  Lucy realised she shouldn't be thinking like that, wishing JR dead, but she couldn't help it.  Everything that was wrong in life was due to JR.  Her parents not being around for her when she was younger, Sue Ellen's drinking, Bobby and Pam not being together.  It was all JR's fault and nothing bad ever happened to him. Oh yes, John Ross was dead, but she could probably point the blame for that at JR, possibly one of his deals had gone bad and John Ross suffered because of it.  The man was pure evil.

“Mavis, Punk isn't coming out, I saw him in there,” Lucy paused thinking of the right words “ he didn't make it” she said.

“Lucy he wouldn't leave me alone, he has to come back” Mavis replied with tearsin her eyes “he can't leave me, he just can't”

“I'm sorry Mavis” Lucy said

Lucy put her arms around the older women and held her close, with that Mavis let thetears flow.  “What am I going to do?” she cried.

Lucy pulled away for a moment “It's okay, you have me and Grandma, we'll look after you, the Ewings will be your family now, I promise”

The two women hugged. Both fearing for lives of the people still trapped in the building.
