Margaret
had walked the distance from Rays house over to Southfork and had climbed
onto a haystack in one of the barns.
She was listening
to music on her headphones. She often, dressed down in her dungarees,
came here to get away, she liked the solitude and the feeling of being
alone away from the world with only the horses for company. In the silence
in between the tracks changing on the cd Margaret heard a noise outside
and slowly peered over the edge from were she sat to see who was there.
Dean had walked
a fair distance and was hot and sweaty, he entered the barn to get some
shade from the hot mid morning sun. As he sat down in the coolness and
took a large swallow from his bottled water Margaret observed him quietly.
She was intrigued from their last encounter and had been disappointed
that she'd had no time to speak to him at the wedding. As she watched
Dean took off his shirt and splashed water over his head and then shook
himself before stretching and lying back against a stack of hay. Dean
closed his eyes and let him self start to drift slightly, he could feel
his breath starting to deepen and was becoming less conscious of the
sound of the horses when suddenly he felt something drop down beside
him. As he opened his eyes and looked down he saw her girls sandal.
He picked up the shoe and then looked up from where it had dropped and
saw Margaret peering over the ledge and grinning down at him.
"Hi."
Margaret said and giggled."
"Hi yourself,
this is a pleasant surprise, I've been waiting to get a chance to speak
to you alone."
Margaret dropped
down from the ledge and landed a few feet away from Dean disturbing
the horses in her descent. As she shook the hay from her self she moved
closer to Dean and began to sing in a breathy voice.
"I think were
alone now, there doesn't seem to be anyone around." Margaret giggled
again and then slowly touched the side of Dean's face with her hand
and then let it drop allowing her fingers to graze his naked torso.
"So how is
married life?"
Dean didn't reply
he just stared at Margaret intently. Margaret held his stare for a moment
and then let her eyes drop and began to chatter again.
"I guess this
is still officially your honeymoon, it's not much of a way to spend
it is it, what with all you in-laws under the same roof. Didn't you
want to sweep Lucy away somewhere so you could lie on a beach and.."
Dean continued to
stare at Margaret. She began to become a little exasperated with his
non communication and shuffled her feet and rolled her eyes a little
to demonstrate her annoyance.
"For somebody
who wanted to speak to me you sure don't have much to say, what's wrong,
you suddenly tongue tied? Don't worry I get a lot of that, although
that's usually from high school boys, I was hoping you might have a
bit more about you."
Margaret didn't
have chance to finish what she was saying as Dean suddenly pulled her
towards him and pressed his mouth over her hers kissing her passionately
and silencing her taunts.
As
they pulled away, for a moment Margaret was slightly taken back by what
had just happened. She stepped away from him and then stammered
"What about
Lucy, you have just got married."
"I told you
once before you're not dealing with school boys now. Don't start something
you can't finish."
Dean stepped away
from Margaret and turned around and began to pick up his shirt, as he
bent over he felt a slap on his behind. He stood up slowly and tuned
round with a smile on his face. Margaret was stood before him in just
her underwear, her dungarees a heap on the floor beside. She walked
slowly over to him and this time she kissed him slow and deep. As they
kissed she began to unbuckle his belt and unbuttoned his jeans, she
gave a tug on the waistband and suddenly Dean's trousers were around
his ankles. Margaret stepped back and looked Dean over, stood there
naked except for his shorts, she could see that he was aroused. As he
began to struggle trying to pull his jeans over his shoes whilst remaining
standing she moved towards him and pushed him backwards, with his feet
tied up Dean swiftly fell backwards onto the hay.
Margaret stood over
him and removed the remainder of her clothes and slowly straddled Dean's
body as he again tried to struggle underneath to free his feet, she
pressed her waist over him and kissed him again. This time when they
pulled apart Dean moved his hand over Margaret's breast and began to
caress it, softly at first them more forcefully. He then gathered up
all his strength stood up lifting Margaret's body up with him, wrapping
her legs around his waist. Dean removed his shorts and pulling them
and his jeans off he pushed their bodies up against the haystack and
slowly began to move himself inside of her. As their bodies became one
Margaret moaned softly. Dean leisurely began to move himself inside
of her, as his movements became more rapid the noise of their lovemaking
became drowned by the sound of the horses that began to snort and stamp
their feet disturbed by the unexpected occurrence.
A
lone figure stood on a street corner across the road from the city hall.
Another man walked towards him, without really stopping he mumbled
"Everything
is in place, at 4.00pm this afternoon that place is going to blow sky
high"
And then continued to walk away. Again the man was left alone staring
at the building as he turned around he began to rub his hands together
and talk to himself.
The
man stared at the building and then gave a menacing laugh under his
breath and for the first time his face is revealed, the piercing blue
eyes of Jeremy Wendell were unmistakable.
JR
was sat in his bedroom, when suddenly there was a knock on the door.
"Come in!"
he shouted and was surprised to see Sue Ellen walk in.
"What can I
do for you?" he asked
Sue Ellen took the
chair by JR's desk and sat down. She didn't know how to say this, what
she had to tell him was going to make him angry, she knew that, but
she couldn't do what he wanted her to do anymore.
"JR, I just
came to tell you that the deal is off, I can't do what you want me to"
she said
"What do you
mean, it's off?" He asked, "You promised me you would help
me get revenge for our son's death"
"I want the
people who caused his death to pay, but I wont hurt anyone in the name
of my son" she said
"You're just
upset about what happened with Pamela and with Cliff in the hospital.
None of that was your doing.
"What
about what I did to Afton, that was the catalyst for it all.
"Your are worried
about Afton, why?" He asked "She never thought about your
feelings when she slept with me!"
The mention of Afton
sleeping with JR sent shivers down her spine, that was so long ago,
but she still felt the pain of realising that JR was once again cheating
on her, especially since they had been getting on so well.
"JR, that was
years ago, and believe me I know how it feels when a husband cheats
on his wife, and I don't want to cause that pain to someone else, even
Afton. I saw her face when I showed her those pictures and I knew her
pain, because I had felt it so many times," She said
JR got up and looked
out the window "Well it's obvious that you didn't love our son
as much as I did" he said
Sue Ellen was angry.
How could he say that? Of course she loved her son, she had now lost
the two people she loved most in this world. JR left her years ago,
but she had survived because she had still had her son. She was silent;
JR had hurt her by his words.

She thought back 23 years to the tiny baby crying in the crib. She remembered
watching him, wanting to soothe his crying, but she couldn't, he looked
too much like JR, she couldn't bear touching him, so she left it to
Pam to look after him. Then she thought of the times that she was drinking
and how she had neglected him. She knew she hadn't been the perfect
mother but she loved John Ross and would grieve for him until the day
she died. She wished she could turn the clock back and have the baby
crying in the crib; this time she would do everything so differently.
She would give her life in order to have that time back again. She finally
opened her mouth to speak.
"JR, how dare
you say that, I loved my son more than anything in this world. Just
at the moment all I can feel is the pain of losing him, but causing
pain to other people will not bring him back nor will it make me feel
better. JR this has to stop here and now, too many people are hurting
already."
JR looked at her, he knew how much she loved John Ross, and he also
knew that he needed her on his side. He wanted his grandchild. He hadn't
been the perfect parent, he'd rejected his son after his birth and at
other times he was never around for him, always doing business deals
and chasing other women. He thought back to his own childhood and remembered
the pain he felt at not being his father's favourite son. Bobby had
always been Jock's favourite, he could get away with anything, and Gary
had always been Miss Ellie's favourite. JR had felt left out in the
cold so many times. He hoped John Ross knew how much he had loved him,
he would have given his life for his son, and even now he would give
up Ewing Oil just to have his son back. JR turned back towards the window,
he felt tears in his eyes and he couldn't bear for Sue Ellen to see
them.
Sue Ellen broke
the silence "JR, I'm leaving." She said
"What?"
JR replied
"I'm leaving
Dallas, I can't stay here anymore, there's nothing left for me here"
she said
JR was stunned she
couldn't leave him. He had lost his son; he couldn't lose her as well.
He couldn't believe what he was feeling, all he wanted was her, he still
loved her even after all these years and everything they had gone through
together, he still loved her, if she walked out of the door now, his
life would be over. What was happening to him, was he going soft, he
should be glad she was going, finally getting rid of her forever, but
he wasn't.
"Sue Ellen,
don't go," He said
"I have to,
I can't take the pain anymore and that's all there is in Dallas, that's
all there has ever been and I'm so tired, I just want to get as far
away from this place as I can" she said
"Sue Ellen,
please don't leave me, I've lost John Ross I don't want to lose you
too" JR said
Sue Ellen couldn't
believe what she was hearing, but she knew he didn't want her, he just
wanted her help to get their grandchild, and then he would discard her,
as he always had done.
"JR, it's no
good, nothing you can say will change my mind, I'm not helping you in
your little scheme, so forget it" She said
JR was losing her,
he knew if he let her walk out of Southfork then she would be gone forever,
there was something he had to tell her.
"Sue Ellen,
I love you, I always have and I don't want you to walk out of my life
now"
Sue Ellen turned
towards the door; she had heard him say that so many times before he
once again cheated on her. It was only words and they meant nothing
to JR. She so desperately wanted him to love her but she knew he couldn't.
"Nice try, JR but this time it's not going to work, after the conference
this afternoon I am leaving, I am going to start a new life in Washington
and I am not going to look back."
Sue Ellen turned
round and walked out the room.
The
sun had begun to rise from the Eastern Horizon as Bobby ate his breakfast
alone outside...
Unbeknownst to him
J.R appeared behind and watched for several minutes, he finally spoke.
"Bobby..."
"Morning JR."
"We
need to talk its time you brought that son of yours home.
Bobby rose from
his seat and grabbed his coat.
"J.R., I'm
not in the mood this morning, so if you'll excuse me-"
"No use denying
it any longer, Bob. You're only going to make things harder on Christopher
the longer you wait. We need to get this sorted and now. Time is running
out."
"Is that a
threat?"
JR was actually
thinking about Sue Ellen but let the insinuation lie in the air.
"Take it as
you want, but this is going to end soon."
"I swear to
God, if you weren't my brother. If you hurt a hair on my wife or sons
head then all bets are off JR. And family or no family.. "
JR ignored the warning.
"I know you
know where that boy of yours is... if you just tell me where he is,
we can sort this."
"Look I understand
how you feel JR but I will deal with this just be patient and give me
time."
"Time is running
out Bobby."
The two men faced
each other off for several seconds and then Bobby walked away.
He watched as Bobby
pulled his car into reverse and sped off, leaving J.R. looking on alone.
Dean walked up the path stepping aside to miss being hit by Bobby's
car. As he strolled up JR nodded his head and tipped his hat.
"Morning JR."
"Good morning,
you still here then?" Jr said.
Dean looked puzzled.
"Don't tell
me you're not going to take that niece of mine away for a honeymoon,
preferably a round the world trip." Jr laughed at his own humour.
"I gathered
you two don't get on too well. Well I hate to disappoint you but we
have no plans to go away as yet, Lucy wants to stay here with Miss Ellie."
"I can look
after my mama don't you worry about that boy. Now if you were to go
out and book a long vacation, well your Uncle JR here might just be
able to help you out."
"I don't want
your money JR, but if you'd let me I would like to help you any way
I can to find out which bastard killed your son and my step brother."
JR
was suddenly serious.
"I wish you
could, but unless you know where that nephew of mine is then there isn't
an awful lot you can do."
"I was thinking
that maybe I could go pay a visit to Pamela with Lucy and see if we
can't get some more information out of her. I want who ever it is to
pay JR as much as you do."
"That's good
to know boy. It looks like Lucy may have done something right at last
and chose to bring someone into the family with something about them
at last."
Dean
nodded. "Like I say let me know me if there is anything you need
help with. I've been around and I know that there isn't much of anything
that would shock me."
Dean walked into
the house leaving JR in deep contemplation.
Pamela
was pacing up and down in the lounge as the various police officers
searched her home.
"Damn it can't
you get them to stop this?" she asked Brett.
Alison Stannard
the D.A on the case interjected "Mrs Ewing I am afraid there is
nothing you or your lawyer can do as this point. Like I have said we
do have a search warrant."
"Ally how long
is this going to take, they have been searching for over an hour,"
Brett asked.
"This is a
witch hunt, who set this us up JR Ewing?" Pam spat at the D.A.
"Pamela
please just keep calm."
"Don't
you tell me to be calm, I have Police officers ransacking my home, accusing
me of god knows what and trying to blame my son for a murder he didn't
commit."
Suddenly one of police officers entered the room and went over to Alison
and whispered something to her.
"Mrs Ewing,"
Alison said "I'd like to ask you to accompany me to the station"
she walked over and took hold of Pam's arm.
"Like hell
I will." Pamela snapped and shrugged off the other women's hand.
"Very well.
Mrs Pamela Ewing I am officially bringing you in for questioning under
the suspicion that you may have information regarding who killed Anita
Smithfield."
Ellie
was still in her room, over an hour had passed and she was still no
closer to being ready.
The second phone
call had put a stop to the plans she had for the day. The call had been
from an Alexander Chase he apparently was the manger of the home in
which Amanda, Jocks first wife had been living. He was calling to let
her know that Amanda had passed away two nights previously and when
he had been looking for a next of kin or someone to tell he had hit
a blank so aware of the connection he had taken it upon himself to ring
and let the Ewing's know. Ellie was unsure as to how she felt, she and
Amanda had been strangers and the few occasions Ellie had visited Amanda,
due to her mental health condition she had not been the lady who Jock
had loved and married, only a confused pitiful wreck of a women. Ellie
knew it was silly but she felt like crying, crying for a life wasted,
for all the missed opportunities. It could so easily have been Amanda
who had had Jocks children, lived Ellie's life but due to the ill hand
of fate
Somehow this call had brought to a head all the loneliness
Ellie had been feeling of late, she felt like crying for herself, for
all the years that her and Jock had been deprived and how after all
this time it still hurt. Ellie picked up the phone and waited for it
to connect.
"Mr Chase this
is Ellie Farlow again, I have decided I will come down the day after
tomorrow. I'd like to make the arrangement to lay Amanda's body to rest
and take care of any other business."
"You don't
have to do that Mrs Farlow, we have state provisions at the home."
"I wont hear
of it, I will be there within the week."
Becky
sat next to Cliff's bedside flicking through a magazine.
Suddenly the door
opened and an unexpected figure walked in the room.
"Get the hell
out of here."
JR stood and looked
at Becky and then at Cliff, for a moment his usually deadpan face seemed
to twitch.
"I said get
the fuck out of here before I put you in a hospital bed myself."
Becky cursed as she stood up and marched over to him.
"Before you
start to make idle threats I have something that I think you should
see."
"You have nothing
I am interested in, now get out."
Becky was quickly
loosing control. JR stepped back slightly; never one to engage in too
much physical conflict. He pulled out the doctor's report showing the
false reports of Becky's blood samples. She looked up at him after she
had registered what see had read. She then laughed and ripped up the
paper.
"Your losing
your touch JR, you think I can't get another doctor to check me out
and see that there has been no drugs in my system for months before
the baby was conceived?"
"I have drugs
being planted in your car as we speak and I hope that the coffee you
have been drinking all these days whilst you have been holding this
pathetic vigil hasn't been making you to drowsy."
"You bastard."
"I want you
at Southfork by the end of the week otherwise I make a call to the police
and the social services."
JR walked out of
the room leaving Becky stunned and for once in her life speechless.
Fade to Black
