Two "Homecoming"
Southfork
lay in silence as a warm morning breeze blew over the land. Ellie Southworth
Ewing Farlow sat on her bed, beside her an open case filled with years
of letters, photos. Her memories of the man who was her husband, the
father of her children, Jock Ewing.
Miss Ellie studied a photo taken in 1978 of the Ewing Family together,
she smiled and put the photo down and took out another, a much younger
photo of Jock. She studied it and remembered their life together, when
they first met , the Great Depression, the happiness of their children
together. She gently touched the photo.
A voice came from
behind Ellie "Miss Ellie" Pam said gently.
Miss Ellie turned to look at Pamela
"Pam" Miss Ellie said smiling.
Pam walked over
to Miss Ellie and looked at the photos "A lot of memories"
Pam said.
Ellie nodded "A life time of them"
Pam touched Miss Ellie shoulder "Its all going to be fine Miss
Ellie" Pam reassured her.
"Next week
will mark twenty years that I lost Jock. I remember it as if it were
yesterday. It was meant to be his homecoming. I was so happy then I
got a phone call from Punk, Jocks helicopter had gone down and things
were never the same again" Miss Ellie looked down at Jocks photo.
"Now twenty
years later he's finally coming home. I can finally say good-bye"
A tear ran down Miss Ellies cheek .
"this can't
be easy Miss Ellie" Pamela said emotionally.
"Its brought
back all kinds of memories, it took me a long time to come to terms
with his death. I was married to Jock a long time . He was everything
to me, I has always hoped it would be me to go first, selfish I know"
Ellie smiled.
"Not at all"
Pamela said.
"but it wasn't
me. I thought I was going to loose him when he had the heart attack
but not like this. Who would of done this Pam? Who would want to kill
Jock?" Miss Ellie tried to stop herself crying.
Pamela hugged Ellie
tightly.
"I don't know
Miss Ellie, I really don't know"
The two women hugged.
Lucy
Ewing sat at the table in the Southfork Kitchen. Alone her eyes welled
with the beginning of tears. JR walked in and opened the fridge ignoring
her presence, he opened the fridge and took out a beer.
Lucy began to cry,
JR looked over at her.
"Don't Lucy"
JR asked irritated by Lucys emotion.
"I can't help
it JR, its stupid I know, I don't know but its brought back so many
things" Lucy explained
JR opened the beer
and walked over to the table and sat opposite Lucy, he passed the beer
to Lucy.
"No its ok
JR" she replied.
"You look like
you need this more than me honey" he said. Lucy smiled and took
the beer.
There was an uncomfortable
silence.
"Suddenly its
like it all happened just yesterday" Lucy expressed with contemplation
and reflection.
JR swallowed uncomfortably
"Yep" he said standing.
He stood behind Lucy and put his hand on her shoulder and took a breath
looking for words of comfort but unable to express these he walked away
leaving Lucy with her memories.
Bobby stood in the
hallway on the phone. JR walked past emotionless "JR" Bobby
called. JR ignored his brother and headed out of the front door. Bobby
looked concerned and replaced the receiver and walked over to the door
to view JR speeding away in his car.
Christopher walked out "is Uncle JR ok?"
Bobby sighed "I
don't know son, I really don't know"
Sue
Ellen Ewing stood in her living room, she paced the room agitated. The
accident ran through her head over and over. How did it happen? Why
? why ? she kept asking. In a matter of minutes her life had shifted,
her priorities, her beliefs, her pain. She bent down to pick up her
coffee cup, her hand shook erratically from the shock spilling the coffee,
dropping the cup.
Her make-up smeared from crying she put her hands through her hair and
fell slowly to the floor crying in disbelief.
Meanwhile
at Cliffs house
Afton stood in the
kitchen and opened the oven. Cliff walked in.
"You won't
believe this" Cliff stated with a shocked expression.
"what's happened?"
Afton asked.
"That was Bobby,
they are claiming that Jock was murdered" Cliff explained
"Jock Ewing?"
Afton questioned
"wow can you
believe that? I know the old guy had plenty of enemies, but isn't that
just unbelievable? After all this time?" Cliff replied
"Poor Miss
Ellie, how do they know, its been years?" Afton asked.
"They uncovered
his body in South America, during an excavation or something, that beats
all" he says.
"Bet JR isn't
handling it well" Afton suggests
Cliff raises his
eyes. "You know it wouldn't surprise me if he was behind it, now
that would make sense"
Afton shook her
head "That is ridiculous Cliff, despite what you may feel about
JR he loved his daddy, I remember how devastated he was when Jock died"
"maybe, but
then again I'm sure there were lots of people who would like to have
seen Jock out of the way" Cliff reflects.
"Like whom?"
Afton asks as she placed a plate down onto the table.
"Lets see now,
who was around at that time. Yeah there was Jeb Ames and Willie Joe
Garr"
"who?" Afton asks
"These two guys, real nasty pieces of work" Cliff explains
taking a bite from some of the food "JR was mixed up in some dodgy
deal with them and well consequently they ended up murdering JR's secretary
to keep their nasty little deal secret after their release they kidnapped
baby John Ross and it all got rather messy and in true Ewing style got
brushed under a very dirty carpet"
"that's awful but wasn't it infact a woman who lost her own baby
that kidnapped him" Afton stated
"Yeah now you
mention it thats right, how did you know that?" Cliff asked
"Pam told me
years ago, Cliff you need to freshen up on your detective skills"
Afton said snatching the food back from him.
"Very funny,
anyway they would of wanted revenge and getting Jock would of done just
that, anybody who wanted to rock the foundations of Ewing Oil. Jeremy
Wendel is another weasel of a man who would of wanted to do just that"
Cliff expressed in an extremely stubborn manner.
Afton sighed and turn to Cliff "aren't you forgetting someone?"
she asked.
Cliffs eyes looked to one side as he thought "no no I don't think
so, well actually probably yes. I mean there were many who Jock crossed"
Afton looked at him sternly "What about you Cliff? Aren't you one
of those people?"
Cliff stood shocked "Well thank you very much Afton, worlds greatest
detective"
"Im just saying, yes all those people hated the Ewings, but so
did you" Afton explained.
At that moment the door opened and Becky walked in.
Cliff smiled "well hi there" he said greeting his daughter.
"Nice of you to drop in Becky, I almost forgot what you look like"
Afton stated sarcastically.
Becky rolled her eyes "I know, iv just been really busy."
"We were just talking about Jock, isn't that just unbelievable?"
Cliff asked.
Becky sighed "Oh
god not you too. You know I had to get off that Ranch for a while to
escape all that, its just so depressing, its like being at a Barry Manilow
concert, only worse. Its not like the guy just died, it was like 20
years ago"
Cliff laughed.
Afton shook her
head "so compassionate aren't we Becky? Where's John Ross?"
Becky looked awkward
"No idea, you know he doesn't even know about his mother, and the
rest of them don't even seem to care"
Cliff looked confused"
"back up a
sec. Sue Ellen? what are you talking about?" Cliff asked.
"Oh right,
well Sue Ellen was driving home and she was involved in an accident.
She hit a young girl , she was killed" Becky explained seriously.
Cliff looked shocked.
At
Anita Smithfields condo.
Anita stood in her dressing gown and poured herself a brandy taking
a sip as John Ross walked in just wearing his underwear revealing his
worked out body, he carried his clothes.
"Going so soon?"
Anita asked
"That was my
Uncle Bobby, Iv got to go, something about my grandfather but something's
happened to my mom" he explained in a shocked fashion.
"whats happened?"
Anita asked walking over to him and gently touching his face.
"Apparently
shes been involved in some accident. She hit in a kid in her car , a
girl. She died. It was an accident."
"So she hasn't
been charged?" Anita asked
"No no, it
was an accident" John Ross paused "I have to go" he walked
out.
Anita stood alone taking a sip from her glass and looked thoughtful
as a sly smile crossed her face.
