Miss Ellie walked with Gary by the Ewing stables, the air was filled with the sweet smell of dried grass as the sun beat down.

"Its good to have you here Gary" Ellie said hugging his arm.

Gary smiled "I wish I could get out here more often momma" he replied.

Ellie stopped and turned to her son.

"You have built yourself a wonderful life in California Gary, how are the twins?" she asked.

"Just fine , growing up" he laughed

"I know this can't be easy for you Gary, I know that you are only here now for me and I appreciate that" Ellie expressed.

"Momma I -" Gary was stopped in mid flow.

"Gary no need to explain. I know Jock made life very difficult for you and maybe there was more I should of done" she stated regrettably.

Jock Ewing had been a harsh man at times with high expectations of his sons, he pushed them to be in his shadow and he never could understand why Gary preferred the ranch and painting to Oil. The pressure had pushed Gary over the edge and out of Southfork.

"Its ironic but as Jock grew older he learned to appreciate the Ranch, he loved it so much. Almost as much as Ewing Oil" Ellie said reflecting on the past as a breeze blew her hair into her face which she gently pushed back

"I find that hard to believe" Gary laughed.

Ellie and Gary looked out across the sprawling acres of Southfork Ranch.

"This will be Jocks final resting place. Here at Southfork he will be buried" Ellie smiled.

Gary hugged his mother. "You know it wouldn't surprise me when they are shoveling the earth that they don't strike oil" Gary laughed.

Ellie smiled and laughed hugging her son.

Pam, Donna and Valene sat around the patio table. Donna poured herself a glass of cold orange from a jug covered in droplets from the ice.

"How does it feel to be back in Dallas?" Pamela asked Valene

"Fine so far" Valene smiled not quite knowing what to say.

"Fine meaning you haven't seen JR yet" Donna stated

"I don't think JR bothers me that much anymore" Valene said.

"Well JR is JR, " Pam stated "but I for one am glad your here"

"I just wish I could of brought the twins with me" Valene stated then turn to Donna "Oh im sorry,I didn't mean anything-"

Donna interrupted"please its fine Valene, Margaret is going to be ok. We just need to find her, find out what's wrong"

At that moment Lucy Ewing walked over to the table and poured herself some juice. "Donna, Pam" she stated to acknowledge. She looked at her mother and walked away.

Lucy was separated from Valene many years before as a baby and brought up by the Ewings. Valene was bullied and ran out of Texas by JR and his thugs and despite attempts at reconciliation Lucy was not going to deceive herself anymore about happy families.

Valene looked down uncomfortable with the situation and excused herself from the table and walked over to Lucy who stood by the pool.

"Lucy" Val said softly.

Lucy took a breath and turned to her mother.

"You are looking well Lucy" Valene stated smiling

"Please Momma, lets cut out the civilities and get to the point. Im glad your here, but not for myself. For grandma and Bobby. But lets not pretend anything different shall we" Lucy said in a cold manner

"Lucy........I can appreciate how you feel but I do love you" Valene said seriously.

Lucy smiled "You know maybe you do, and I don't blame you for whats happened. But the fact is we don't have a relationship and I can't pretend otherwise. Im your daughter but neither you or dad made any attempt to include me in your life in California. The twins don't even know I exist, so while your playing happy families, perhaps making up for the mess that was made of mine, Im here a casualty of that. So please do me one thing and stay out of my life and I will grant you the same courtesy." Lucy held her glare and walked off leaving Valene standing by the pool.

Valene made her way back to the table as a car screeched into the drive way. JR walked out holding a newspaper and then spotted Valene.

"Well well Valene Ewing, its nice to see you here" He stated smiling

"You never were a good liar JR, you're not happy to see me at all" Valene cut back.

JR phrased his tone in a sarcastic manner "Why Valene, If I felt any better, I'd drop my harp plumb through the cloud"

Valene smiled sarcastically. Donna and looked at Pam and rolled her eyes.

"My my and Donna Krebbs too" JR said.

"Dowling, JR" Donna snapped back.

"Once a Krebbs always a Krebbs honey" JR smiled back.

Lucy walked back over "Hey don't worry about him, just throw a stick and he runs away" she said sarcastically.

JR raised his eyebrows "So I gather my dear brother Gary is here too" he said

"He sure is" Valene replied.

"My everyone is here, so many freaks just not enough circuses" JR said laughing.

He then produced a newspaper. "Talking of drunks and loosers, take a look at this"
JR held up the newspaper " The front-page stated that Sue Ellen Ewing, chairperson of WesStar had been arrested for killing a young girl under the influence of alcohol"

Pamela looked horrified at the news.
