Episode Three

Ancient Grudge, Civil Blood : Written by Lee McCormick

Night fell over Southfork, the sky filled with a million stars, in the darkness across the vast landscape of the ranch, the lights of Southfork illuminated the area.

Pamela Ewing sat in her bedroom, she held the note in her hand. The note was anonymous and claimed Pamela was a killer. Pamela sat thoughtfully, her past had blasted back in a very unexpected way. Someone knew her secret but who?

Pam folded the note up and sat on the bed and lay back thinking.

Lucy walked along the corridor and knocked on Pams door, Pam did not reply . Lucy raised her eyebrows and continued and walked down the stairs. Miss Ellie was in the hallway and replaced the receiver on the phone as Christopher walked in.

Miss Ellie looked up "there's trouble at Oakwood pastures, rustlers".Ellie claimed concerned. "I tried to get hold of Bobby but his phone is switched off" She said.

Lucy walked over to her grandma. "When will these people learn to keep off Southfork?" Lucy asked angrily. "Shall I call the sheriff?" Christopher asked.

"There's no time for that" Lucy explained. "By the time the sheriff gets here we could of lost some prime stock".
Ellie looked concerned "well what are you going to do?" she asked.

Lucy smiled and looked at Christopher "come on" she said "we have some rustlers to catch".

Christopher looked shocked.
"Be careful" Ellie said.

Lucy walked into the den, she took out a key and unlocked the gun cupboard and pulled out two rifles. She opened a drawer and took out some shells and loaded the gun like a professional. She pointed the gun and aimed it, to get a feel. Then she walked back out to Christopher and Ellie.

"Ready?" Lucy asked. She threw a gun to Christopher who caught it.
"Are you sure about this?"Christopher asked.
Lucy smiled "I was riding the range and dealing with rustlers when I was younger you ".

Lucy turned and smiled to Ellie as her and Christopher left the house. Miss Ellie scratched her head concerned, but inside she was proud of Lucy, she reminded Ellie of herself when she was younger.

Lucy and Christopher rode horse back across Southfork. Lucys long blonde hair blew back as her horse galloped across the land. Christopher followed.

Lucy stopped the horse. "There they are" Lucy said spotting a truck in the distance.
She jumped down from her horse and Christopher did the same. She pulled out her rifle and took off the safety catch.
"What are we doing?" Christopher whispered.
Lucy turned and laughed "the element of surprise Christopher, trust me, now follow me" Christopher raised his eyebrows.

Lucy crept up on the cattle rustlers as they loaded the trucks, she hid behind a tree as the moon gently lit up the night sky. Christopher was close behind. Lucy raised her shotgun and came from behind the tree "OK boys, having fun are we?" She shouted at the men.

The 4 men stopped in their tracks, one man looked up "well looky here" he said "what have got here?" he laughed.
Another man laughed too "looks like someone's playing at being a hero ". He said laughing.

"What's wrong?" the man laughed "Your husband too yellow to come here, so he sent ya". He laughed.

"Now wait a minute now" Christopher said.
The man looked at him "shut up kid". The man went to walk towards Lucy.
Lucy looked at him viciously. "You make one more step mister and I`ll kill ya"
"Sure" The man answered sarcastically.

The man stood still and demanded his men continue to load the truck.
"This is private property" Lucy explained "I am well within my rights to blast you out of here".

The man looked down smiling and reached for his gun. Lucy pointed the gun and pulled the trigger shooting the mans hand who fell to the floor screaming in pain, his hand bleeding.

Christopher looked shocked. Lucy looked at him "get the rope and tie these bastards up". She commanded. Christopher nodded and walked back to the horse.

The other men stood standing in shock.
"OK guys shows over, you want some too, if not I suggest you unload my cattle, and now" Lucy demanded.
The men nodded and began to unload.

Christopher walked over to Lucy. "That was amazing" he said.
Lucy winked at him "yep I thought so, now lets get these good folk to the sheriff".

At Billy Bobs, Bobby sat down at the table drinking a beer and Katherine sat opposite.

"I was surprised to hear from you Bobby, but its good to see you".Katherine stated,
Bobby looked at her angrily "Katherine lets spare the small talk, im not here for pleasant conversation".

Katherine looked down "I was hoping that you could forgive me" she said.
"Like I said Katherine, im not here for small talk, Im here about Pam and what's going on". He stated.

"Why don`t you ask Pam? I don`t think its my place" She explained to Bobby.

Bobby leant forward "I want to know what you have to do with all this, with Pam, when she was away". He asked.

Katherine smiled. "Bobby, Pams my sister and despite whatever happened in the past I care for her, very much, lets just say I was there when she needed me, when Pam had that accident, a lot changed, Pam changed, she wasn't thinking straight, She didn`t plan on leaving for good, I know she didn`t. She had to come to terms with her burns, it had massive psychological as well as physical effects on her, after she left Dallas, I had contacts, in Europe as well as other places, and I tracked her down, when she told me.......... , oh nothing, its not my place"

Katherine stopped and sipped on her drink.
Bobby looked down "no please continue". He asked.

Katherine sighed "Ok, but please don`t tell her I told you".
"I won`t", Bobby stated "I just need to know".

Katherine took a breath. "Her burns didn`t heal properly, most of them had, but the cell growth had complications, and she was told she had cancer". Katherine stopped.
There was silence. Bobby sat back his heat beating faster.

Katherine took a breath "The doctors told Pam, that she was dying, that she only had a few months to live".
Again there was a silence.
Katherine continued "it seemed like there was no hope, I supported her, as best I could, she decided she didn`t want to come back, she thought it was the best thing, for you and Christopher, for her to come back just to watch her die, so she came to terms with that and set up home in Kansas under a false name, alone, trying to hold on.".
Bobby took a breath. "But when Cliff came to see her?" He asked.

"She wasn`t herself that day bobby and she lied " Katherine explained,"she thought she was protecting you and Cliff, and looking back maybe that was a mistake".

"But shes ok now?" Bobby questioned.

Katherine nodded "yes and no, look I know this is a shock for you Bobby, especially with me involved, I guess I found her at her most vulnerable and I proved to her that I changed, I hope you can believe that".

Bobby sat for a moment "but she is ok?" he asked again.

Katherine smiled "yes, she had treatment and it worked, but Bobby it could always come back, there are no guarantees".

Bobby looked confused. " I don`t understand, theres something your not telling me"

Katherine stood up "If you want to know more, I suggest you talk to Pam, iv said enough"

"Well thankyou" Bobby said quietly.

Katherine smirked "Don`t thank me Bobby, being insincere isn`t one of your strong points".

Katherine walked away. Bobby sat looking helpless and confused as he shook his head not knowing what his next move should be.
