EPISODE 23
" Discoveries"
The DA's Office
After almost two hours of questioning Mr. LaCoste, Alison could see this man was not going to break.
"You have asked me over and over about Elizabeth Benson, but you have yet to let me know what you are looking for.” said LaCoste. "I think it is time that we ended this little tea party."
Alison could feel her patient slipping away. She banged her fist on the table in frustration.
"I think that you know more than what you are willing to tell me Mr. LaCoste. I also think that you may have been involved with helping to get these people information on other businessman in the US...men such as JR Ewing and Jeremy Wendell."
"Oh yes, the two oil men with egos bigger than the state of Texas." stated LaCoste. "Why our company ever got involved with these two men I will never know."
“Greed, power and revenge. I can understand why Wendell joined your group, for you to help him get revenge on JR Ewing, but why did such an influential international conglomerate such as yours get involved with small time revenge of a couple of Texas Oil men?”
“Again you are trying to get me to speak about things I no nothing about. I will tell you though that whoever or whatever Wendell was, this idea that he was the brain behind the death of Ewing's son is rubbish. There is no way that this man could have organized such an event. We know everything a person does in our organization. If Mr. Wendell had even attempted to contact someone for a deed such as this, we would have known."
""But we have a confession", stated Alison. “Mr. LaCoste, do you realize what you are saying?"
"Yes, I do...you have the wrong man in the Ewing case, and you have the wrong woman in the Elizabeth Benson case. Now, if you do not mind, I have other appointments to attend.”
Looking stunned Alison closed the interview down and then watched as LaCoste left the room. She pondered what she had just heard and then mumbled, “I knew it.”
As Mr. LaCoste left the District Attorney's office and approached his car, a gentleman came up behind him and after saying something to him led him across the car park. They approached a limo and the man opened the front door for Mr. LaCoste to get in. Looking especially pale, Mr. LaCoste entered the limo. With the back area of the limo blocked by mirrored glass, Mr. LaCoste could not see the figure that was about to address him. A female voice spoke
"Mr. LaCoste, I think it is time that you took a long overdue vacation. Your wife and children have already left for Australia and are expecting you tomorrow. Go and have a wonderful time on our behalf." Mr. LaCoste swallowed hard once again for the second time that day.
Back at the Restaurant
Bobby retrieved his car and climbed inside. He sat there for several minutes, absorbing the pain, hurt and guilt he felt from that night with Holly. He slammed his hand against the steering wheel in frustration. “What the hell was I thinking?” Bobby laid his head against the headrest and sighed. “I can't let it end like this. I have to do something.” Then a smile crossed his face, “We'll, as Holly said Bobby a Ewing is a Ewing so just borrow a page from ol JR's book and turn on that charm.” He started the car, and headed it toward Pam's house.
Matthew Blanchard and Associates
Ellie pulled the car up to an office complex. She took the elevator to the third floor and entered the office of Matthew Blanchard and Associates , a detective agency. Thomas waited in the lobby as Ellie met with a young detective just starting in the firm.
"Welcome Ms Farlow.", said Blake Mallard.
Both exchanged handshakes as he motioned for Ellie to sit in one of the two chairs in front of his desk. Ellie was impressed with the young man right off. He did not sit behind his desk, but sat in the chair opposite her. She noted that this took away any barrier between detective and client.
"I must say, I was shocked when you called. Are you sure you want to use a rookie like me, there are plenty of guys who are much more qualified for a client such as yourself.", Blake stated.
"Mr. Mallard, I asked for the newest member on staff because my case is going to require a lot of thought, energy, money, leg work, and privacy. If you don't feel that you're up to the task, then..."
"No ma'am, that is not what I am saying.” he proclaimed. "It's just, well, ugh, you are a Ewing!"
"Believe me Mr. Mallard, when I got up this morning, I washed and brushed my teeth just like you. Now, do we go on or do I find another detective?"
Pulling his chair closer to Ellie, Blake indicated he was ready to work.
Ellie handed Blake a folder with all the contents and information she had on Jock and Amanda's child.
"Wow, Ms Farlow, this has been a long time."
"Mr. Mallard, no excuses...only results. It is very important that I know what happened to this child."
"Yes'ma'am.” he says.
"Will you take the case?” Ellie asked.
"I wouldn't be a detective if I didn't.” he said laughing.
"Great.” said Ellie as she stood to leave.
"And one other thing Mr. Mallard - no one in my family is to know about any of this."
Blake nodded saying he understood what she was asking of him. As Ellie left, Blake walked to his desk chair and sat. Rubbing his fingers through his long blonde hair, he said to himself, "Blake, my man, you have your work cut out for you."
"Blake, my man, you have your work cut out for you."
Charlie's Club
Dean walked in and noticed Charlie at a table reading some paperwork. He decided to walk over to see if he could help. As he approached, Charlie could see he wasn't in the best of moods, it was written all over his face.
"Hey, what are you reading?" Dean asked sitting next to her.
"Nothing important, just some boring paperwork." she replied with a smile.
"Anything you need me to do?"
"Well there is one thing, cheer up!" she said with a huge grin.
"How did I know you were gonna say that?" he replied shaking his head.
"If you knew what I was gonna say then you'll know what's coming next, so suck up your pride and smile already." she says poking him on the shoulder. "I mean you're gonna be around me all day, eventually you're either gonna be happy and in a terrific mood or you're gonna go crazy and end up in the loony bin! Now which is it going to be so I can alert the police."
Dean started laughing and smiled shaking his head in disbelief.
"You're too much" Dean told her.
"Really? Then I guess there's enough of me to go around." After she said this they gazed at each other for what feels like forever, until Charlie spoke.
"In fact I think I will knock this on the head for a while and run some errands."
Charlie stood and patting him lightly on the shoulder she descends for the room. Dean sits deep in thought. He wasn't sure how he was feeling; He knew he was suffocating in his marriage and living at SouthFork. Was it really worth it? Was being rich enough of a reward for the things he had done, was doing? Being with Charlie made him feel alive again, hopeful. He wanted time to go back, wanted to start again. Suddenly there was a knock at the door.
“We're closed.” Dean yelled.
The knocking continued.
“Dammit “ Dean said as marched to the door, opening the door he spoke again. “ I said we are closed!”
“Sorry to bother you Mr Hillman” Alison said “ I was just wondering if I could ask you some questions about your brother.”
Pam's House
Brett rang the bell and Pam greeted him immediately. Brett looked at her, “You've been crying. What's wrong? What's happened?”
Pam's tears prevented her from answering him. All she could do was collapse against his chest, sobbing uncontrollably.
Bobby pulled his car to a stop at the curb outside Pam's house. He pulled right up behind a strange car and as he glanced toward the front door of the house, he saw another man holding his wife. Anger immediately flooded over his mind and body. He jumped out of the car, slamming his door and flew toward the pair of them. He reached the porch and grabbed Brett by the arm flinging him away from Pam, causing him to lose his balance and land on his ass. “What the hell is going on here,” he glared at Pam?
“Bobby, Brett's just a friend,” Pam said in a panic, “besides, what business of it is yours? Shouldn't you be with your little harlot? How dare you come over here like this? You have no right to…”
Bobby grabbed Pam left wrist and held her hand to her face, showing her the wedding ring on her hand, “I think this gives me every right.”
“And I thought that ring meant that you would be faithful to me.”
“Don't talk to me about being faithful to our marriage. I may have slept with someone else but you have betrayed me with your lies and destroyed what we had.”
Pam slapped Bobby hard across the face, “Get the hell out of here Bobby, and don't bother ever coming back.”
Bobby turned and walked back to his car and sped away.
A couple of days later, SouthForkJR and Sue Ellen walked through the foyer, and noticed the mail lying on the table. JR picked it up and flipped through it, tossing everything but a large manila envelope aside.
“Wonder what's in that,” Sue Ellen asked?
JR opened it and began to read the letter that was enclosed, immediately all the color drained from his face. His hand began to shake involuntarily and an 8x10 photo fell to the floor. Sue Ellen picked it up and looked at the photo of John Ross with the words scribbled on it, ‘He's alive.'
“Oh my God” Sue Ellen said and stared at JR's ashen face.
“When you're dead, you're dead. That's it or is it.”
