The on off, off and on again Dallas movie took a new twist this week when John Travolta revealed it is to be set in Saudi Arabia.

His role as J.R. Ewing in the big-screen Dallas is still a go, but director Betty Thomas has ordered some drastic changes from the ’80s CBS soap original. “They had a script, but it wasn’t quite Dallas yet,” conceded Travolta. “It was a fun script, but it was a different movie.” The new comedic take, he said, “is more of a spoof on the idea of Dallas. It takes place in present time in Saudi Arabia, with a minimal amount of other Ewings. I’m not sure how it will all unfold.”

 Well John we can tell you how it will unfold, somewhat like toilet paper caught around the neck of an overexcited Andrex puppy. A big tangled mess with only one practical use.

With Christmas just around the corner you could be mistaken into thinking Larry Hagman had swapped his nasty JR look for one of Santa, as he donned a beard for Love Ride 24.

The Harley Davidson Love Ride started in 1981 as the Glendale Harley Davidson biker’s carnival that benefited the Muscular Dystrophy Association and has grown to be one of largest one day motorcycle events and Harley rides in the US.

Larry, a huge Harley Davidson enthusiast, attended the event with his wife Maj (pictured above),  in full biker look but wearing his signature stetson.

Larry was not the only ex prime time  soap actor to attend, Falcon Crest star Lorenzo Lamas was also a guest at the annual event.

This jam packed season of the hit show starts with the aftermath of Bobby Ewings shooting. Meanwhile Pamela gets news that Mark Graison may be alive and starts her hunt to track him down.

This season also sees the arrival of Jamie Ewing played by Jenilee Harrison and Jack Ewing played by the late Dack Rambo.

Stephen has no idea that his eldest daughter, Brooke Logan (Katherine Kelly Lang), was recently raped or that sicko Stephanie had a hand in it. So expect fireworks.

“For years this family has been ashamed to be Logans,” Bell notes. “Now they’re going to rise up and proudly combat this oppressive woman.” Can we safely assume it’s Stephanie who takes the bullet? Bell is mum except to say, “It’s a shocker.”

At the moment the channel has only got the licence to show the first 5 series of Dallas, and the first sequential weekday run will come to anend on Friday 12th October, with a few repeats being shown over the following weekend.

But UK Gold state they are collecting viewer comments regarding this with the aim to give feedback to those who can purchase further seasons.

As we reported a few months back, Dallas Season 8 is due for release by Warner Brothers.

 We are promised some exciting extras on the season 8 box set including interviews with producers and writers from the show. The extras show is currently in production.

Season 8 includes the uncut feature length episode of the series finale Swan Song where we see the demise of a well loved character.

Other notable points of interest for this season is the introduction of Donna Reed, who replaces Barbara Bel Geddes in the role of Miss Ellie. This series also introduces two new family members - Jack Ewing played by the late Dack Rambo and Jamie Ewing played by Jenilee Harrison.

The cover art has been released by Warner Brothers and as usual includes Larry Hagman as JR, Victoria Principal, Linda Gray, Patrick Duffy and Donna Reed in the role of Miss Ellie.

There are suggestions that Warner Brothers hope to release this season in time for Christmas 2007.
