BURBANK, CA (December 22, 2010) – On April 12, 2011, Warner Home Video will bring together all of the beloved and notorious characters from Southfork for one last time with Dallas: The Movie Collection. The DVD collector’s set, which includes a prequel, two cast reunion telefilms and retrospective TV special, is priced to own at $29.98 SRP.
Dallas, the highly popular prime time television soap opera, ran from 1978 to 1991 and revolved around businessman J.R. Ewing and his wealthy Texas family in the oil and cattle-ranching industries. The TV series grew legions of fans with its compulsively watchable tales of greed, scheming and sex – most masterminded by smilin’ J.R. Ewing (Larry Hagman), the double-dealing oilman folks love to hate. Always a huge hit with fans, the success of Dallas gave rise to the four exciting pieces in this special collection, starting with a prequel, The Early Years (1986), which sets the stage for the drama to come. The other three, starring Hagman and more favorite cast members, include the reunion movies J. R. Returns (1996) and The War of the Ewings (1998), which plunge a wheeling-dealing J.R. into plots to take over Ewing Oil, and the fascinating retrospective Return to Southfork (2004), which is brimming with clips, outtakes and reminiscences from your favorite Dallas stars.
The Emmy-winning series stars Larry Hagman (“I Dream of Jeannie”), Patrick Duffy (“The Bold and the Beautiful”), Ken Kercheval (“Diagnosis Murder”), Linda Gray (“Melrose Place”), Steve Kanaly (“All My Children”), Victoria Principal (“Titans”) and Charlene Tilton (“The Love Boat”).
The show originally debuted in April 1978 as a five-part miniseries on the CBS network. However, its immense popularity allowed Dallas to return for an additional 13 seasons. People the world over are still watching Dallas on cable as the series continues to find a whole new generation of viewers. Over its 14 seasons, Dallas garnered 17 Emmy nominations and four wins, 14 Golden Globe nominations and one win, and was the #1 or #2 rated network series for five consecutive seasons. Seasons 1 through 14 are currently available on DVD.
