Gurinder waits for Dallas movie resurrection.
Is Gurinder Chadha hoping for a Dallas come back?
In a recent interview with the London newspaper ‘Metro’ Gurinder hinted the movie may well be resurrected.
So will she finally shoot JR after all? ‘It’s Hollywood, you know?’ Chadha shrugs before popping a cake confidently into her mouth. ‘Projects get resurrected and I like to think good scripts never say die. ‘ More power to her elbow, say I - though if I were JR, I’d be quaking in my cowboy boots.
Dallas the movie was announced several years ago as a remake of the original five part pilot from 1978, a drama based on the Enron scandal with JR Ewing at the helm played by John Travolta. Recently it was rumored to be a comedy take on the Ewing family.
So what happened to the Dallas movie?
“The studio did some research and they found out that if you were under 38 you didn’t know the show Dallas,” laughs Chadha. “So of course they worried about a younger audience not coming to see it, because people didn’t know the show. And of course that made me feel really old because I do remember it.”
Gurinder’s latest movie Angus, Thongs And Perfect Snogging is in UK cinemas from Friday, Jul 25

I am 45…waiting for a new Dallas story. Make the Movie!!!!
July 26th, 2008 at 3:15 am
I wish they would bring the dvd’s of the shows out quicker. I started watching this show when I was 18. I’m 48 and they still haven’t released all the episodes. This was and still is my favorite show of all time. I hope to own all the dvd’s of the show and the 3 movies (hopefully in the same format). When I started watching this, I probably was one of the younger viewers. Yes, people under 38 were 8 or under years of age - not exactly soap watchers - their bedtime was probably before 10, when the show was over.

The statistics are wrong. I am 27 and I love Dallas. I practically live in Bradock.

Hey everyone! I’m from Canada and 25 and I have been watching Dallas forever
July 26th, 2008 at 5:41 pm
I am gutted, i was looking forward to it. Probably the best thing though, War of the ewings and J r returns was terrible in comparison and they had original cast memers in it

I’m 25 and i just loved watching Dallas when i was a kid. I think making a movie is a great idea, but why can’t they just keep the concept as it was but up to date.Making a comedy would just be so disappointing. Keep this concept as it is like the james bond, batman, etc… Ben stiller would not be a good choice for sure.

Hi everyone! I’m 31 and live in Hungary. I’m a huge fan of Dallas. I first started watching the show in 1990 on TV, now I’m watching it on dvd and I would love to see it on the big screen as well. But please, do not make fun of the Ewings, do not make it a comedy! Thank you!
July 28th, 2008 at 2:50 pm
Hi, My name is Jenny. I am 43 and have been watching Dallas ever since it started when I was just 13 years old. I am a huge fan of Dallas. I know that this is not the topic, but i was VERY disappointed when Victoria Principle left the show. One of the main reasons i tuned in every week to watch Dallas was for <3Bobbby + Pam<3. Then she left the show and Bobby started to see Tracey, from then on i still loved the show, but i missed Pam, she was my favourite character. I do hope that they make a Dallas movie.
July 28th, 2008 at 3:15 pm
Hello, fellow Dallas Fans, my name is Jeremy. I am also 43 and have been watching Dallas since I was 13. I was also dissapoited about the departure of Pam. Might i suggest doing a new Dallas movie, that is NOT a comedy. Might i also suggest having Victoria Principal in it. To explain her LONG departure, you can say that she was ashamed of herself, and she was told she would die, for many years she was expecting to die, till in her 14th year in the hospital she got very sick and then when she was better she comes home to Bobby, she learnes that her doctor, that told her for almost 15 years that she was dying, was hired by JR, immediatly after he discovered about her accident, Pam and Bobby (and Christopher) leave SOUTHFORK for good. Then they find out that Southfork was left to Bobby by Miss Ellie. They return to Southfork, but demand that JR leave, or they will sell the ranch. (anything to get JR away), b/c of course Bobby is steamed about missing out with Pam for 15 years b/c of venemous JR….
This is just the Dallas movie i have dreamed of ever since the show ended in 1991. I think that this would be a special movie that ppl across the globe would pay to see in the theatres, millions of dollars would be made, because of the return of Pam, that would be the best movie i have ever seen, thank you for reading this.
I loved watching the fueds between JR and Pam, amd JR and Bobby. I am a huge fan of Dallas, Larry hagman, Patrick duffy, Victoria Principla, Jim David, Linda Gray, Barbra Bel Geddes, Charlene Tilton, Steve Kanaly…
Thank you for your time, I enjoyed writing this and i hoped you enjoyed reading this. ~Love Lydia~

Sorry for the inconvinience and have a great day…

I am 33 and have watched dallas my whole life. I was very, very disappointed to hear the movie had been axed.
The notion of a comedic approach to the series…I don’t know about that. There was nothing funny about miscarriages, J.R.’s dirty deals or Mark’s ressurection…It was a prime time soap! Let’s keep it that way and maintain it’s integrity…For Hagman’s sake!
July 28th, 2008 at 9:47 pm
I have watched Dallas my entire life and still watch it DAILY! I wish they would release the rest of the series already and bring back the three dallas movies! And even more!
July 29th, 2008 at 12:30 am
Hi
i’m a french guy and i’m 36yo…i know Dallas and i want the movie!!!
July 29th, 2008 at 10:26 am
I love watching Dallas re-runs, but it’s time for a new show or movie. I think it is fitting in today’s society to have an updated Dallas. Think about the current gas/oil crisis- it’s the 70’s all over again. Dallas makes sense- it needs re-vamped and definitely has to have as many original cast members as possible- they can be parents of a new generation. But if I were in Hollywood- I would bank-roll this project and make it happen.
July 29th, 2008 at 3:48 pm
I would love to see a movie, but please don’t take it out of context. Why don’t you have John Ross Jr. & Christopher be the basis. Dallas “The Second Generation”. There’s no better time then the present with the Oil crisis going on. Just Do Something and include John Trovelta and don’t make us wait so long for season 10!!!.
July 29th, 2008 at 4:04 pm
I love dallas and I am 26. I first strated watching dallas on soapnet because it was the only shoow that was on late at night and now I am hooked. I love JR. So lets get a movie going…
July 29th, 2008 at 7:35 pm
I am 29 and LOVE Dallas! I began watching it in the 80’s with my mom… she is also a huge fan. I was very disappointed to hear the movie is a no-go. I think it would be a great success with various age groups. Everyone still loves a good soap nowadays. Hopefully the movie will be made some day.
July 29th, 2008 at 10:59 pm

I am 28 years old and I remember Dallas. I have been watching it with my mom since I was 2 in 1981. Yes I can remember some of it from that young too!! My husband is 32 and he also watches it and remembers it. Make the movie already, but PLEASE DO NOT MAKE IT INTO A COMEDY THAT WILL RUIN IT. Besides A movie version will never compete to the real TV Show!! Shalon Farmer

Hello everyone - I am 32 and my beautiful mum is 52 and we love dallas. We live in the UK and have been fans forever. We just love to watch over and over again. We know the words to all our fave scenes!! In october we are all flying to dallas to go to southfork and to soak it all in. We cant wait!! Dallas is not age bound, the movie execs should follow JR and if the front door is closed, just go around to the back!!! Ot wouldnt be right though without Larry at the helm.
August 2nd, 2008 at 2:27 am
i’m 32 i started watching Dallas when i was a kid “if your under 38 you didn’t know the show Dallas” How rude lol
August 3rd, 2008 at 8:08 am
I watched the very first episode of Dallas until the last episode. I never missed one!!!! Even though I was in labor, I refused to go to the hospital until my episode of Dallas was over. Please bring the cast back to life for those of us who love Dallas for those who have yet to discover a love/hate relationship with JR.
August 3rd, 2008 at 8:09 pm
i agree lets make this DALLAS movie and NOT as a comedy either. yes get travolta as jr get streep as sue ellen. i would go and see it.
August 4th, 2008 at 7:35 am
Please make the movie already,I would like to see Jihn Travolta as JR and Luke Wilson as Bobby!! make it just like the show was,and have either William H Macy or Andrew McCarthy play Cliff Barnes!!!

Hello my name is Taylor and i am 13 years old. My dad gave the first and second seasons of Dallas to my mom for Christmas. I watched one episode and i was hooked!I now watch it everyday. I have been watching the seasons on DVD which is amaizing! I think the idea of a Dallas movie is great, as long as it is not a comedy. And i think one of the comments above suggesting that Victoria Principle plays in it is a good idea. well, dallas is on and i don’t want to miss this episode so i gotta bounce! BYEBYES!
August 8th, 2008 at 5:15 pm
I’m 22 and I watch the reruns, and I think if they make it in comedy it will be a BIG flop, the whole purpose of Dallas is drama, so make it one!!
August 9th, 2008 at 9:37 pm
I’m only 15, but my mom got me interested in the show. I like freakin love it. I hope they would make the movie already!!!
August 10th, 2008 at 7:55 am
I’m 18, I love Dallas! i’ve seen ever epidsode as many time they’ve replayed the series on Soapnet. That is bs people under 38 not knowing Dallas i have tons of friends under 20 who love Dallas as much as i do.If they try and dumb down the movie to get younger people to go see it the may as well not make the movie at all(because we won’t go see it).Stick to the original plot/pilot.Like they say if ain’t broke don’t fix it.

Well, I am 43 and have also waited for the return of DALLAS in one format or another. I would like to see a reunion movie on tv before a movie appeared. How about DALLAS: THE FINAL ROUND-UP? A movie would be nice, but also agree on making it like the show…not something making fun of the time period and tv storylines. Being such a huge fan, my ultimate dream would be for the series to back on the air with the next generation. Whe will Hollywood execs quit looking at the general public like idiots? WE KNOW WHAT WE LIKE. And for those who want to know, the over 40 group still watch televison and go to the movies…WE ARE NOT DEAD YET. LOL.
August 12th, 2008 at 10:30 pm
Please produce DALLAS. It needs to ne ressurected. Use the past stars that are still alive where possible. Bobby as daddy Ewing and Linda Gray as Miss Ellie maybe. A comedy would ruin the history of the whole show. It was one of the last family shows a whole family could watch together. Cruel, but clean and exciting. I like the idea of the young sons getting involved with their parents inheritence and what they did with it. I am 61 and my wife and I watched every episode and still do.
August 14th, 2008 at 6:09 pm
I am 22 and I love the series more than any show I have seen ever. The drama does not compare to the series even today and making a movie would be great!
August 14th, 2008 at 6:10 pm
** Does not compare to other series even today **
August 18th, 2008 at 1:06 pm
i think pple under 38 will watch this movie. i am 33 and watched as a kid. i now have 5 seasons on dvd and im going to add more. nothing will compare to the show however. i also own starskey and hutch and charlies angels on dvd and the movies were horrible. but i would still go and see it. thanx
August 18th, 2008 at 1:10 pm
o by the way, j-lo would be a much better pam than a sue-ellen. just my opinion cuz she looks more like her!!!
August 27th, 2008 at 4:18 am
I’m 25 and I totally remember the show. i own the first 8 seasons on DVD lol
MAKE THE MOVIE ALREADY!!!!!!!
August 27th, 2008 at 7:09 am
I always loved Dallas, never got to see all the episodes I ws in the military then. There was a tv movie called Dallas:the early years about how it all started,I wish it would come out on dvd.
August 31st, 2008 at 2:48 pm
My husband got me hooked on Dallas a couple of years ago—I was 27! I am about to buy the 9th season and “dig in”. It’s the best show ever! Like everyone said, “Don’t make it a comedy.” I think John travolta would make a great J.R., and Jennifer Love Hewitt a terrific Pam. Or, like another poster said, use the original characters back and expand from there.
September 1st, 2008 at 6:41 pm
I have waited patiently for the movie to be released. It’s still the talk of the metroplex and everyone I know is anxiosly hoping somewhere, somehow, the movie is being made. Until then, we’ll just hang on to our horsed.
September 4th, 2008 at 12:13 am
I’m still waiting for the go ahead. When will they make their bloody minds up?
September 7th, 2008 at 2:21 am
I am 27 and I remembered my mom watching it when I was a child. I bought the 1st dvd set to see what all the fuss was about cause it is like the most famous night time soap ever. Of course I was hooked and bought every season as soon as it came out. I got family members, friends, and co workers hooked as well. It is all new to me I haven’t read spoliers so I don’t know what I would want to happen in the movie if they ever make one but I’m with everyone else on this NO COMEDY thing that would just be crazy to even consider. Larry Hagman should be involved in the writting of the script he was the backbone of Dallas and would do right by it. Although I like him I don’t think they should get John Travolta to be JR, I think Vince Vaughn could play the part well. Whoever they get to play JR will make or break the movie so hope they will get that right if they decide to make one.
September 8th, 2008 at 1:36 am
I saw Dallas as a young girl (16 years old ) when it aired and all it’s original episodes not to mention all its reruns afterwards. The series exposed greed, lust, and power at its highest level. But what made the show so good was its drama and humor. You felt you had a little insight on how the wealthy and powerfull lived. I think if the movie could be made in its original format it would made a great movie and enjoyed by many young and old. Remember this is a texas story, so actors like Sandra Bullock, Matthew McConaughey, Luke Wilson, Tommy Lee Jones, Dennis Quaid(just to mention a few). I’m sure there are parts for them. I even know of a Texan director that should consider this project. Oh well, I don’t want to get carried away. What the heck, I just may make the movie myself.
September 8th, 2008 at 9:21 pm
Don’t make Dallas a comedy. that’s what was so cool about the series. It was a drama that was riveting with an underlying tone of cheesiness (funny). It is an all-time classic. DON’T RUIN IT!!!
September 9th, 2008 at 3:38 am
Please make the movie but no comedy.Im 20 years old and Ive seen every episode possibly twice. But find someone who will portray J.R. as Larry Hagman did.
September 12th, 2008 at 1:35 am
I understand that a BIG announcement is coming up…is this about the movie, a tv reuion movie, or a return of the series?
September 19th, 2008 at 3:34 pm
I am 37 i watched all 13 seasons of the show and loved it. at one point they were going to make into a bewitched move. That would of been wrong. I think it can be updated and be a Enron, or WallStreet Firm like lehmans brothers or WorldCom. That was what they were going to do in the first place just update it a little to match current affairs.
Now with the new resession this would be the perfect time to start dallas over since it started during a resession.,
September 20th, 2008 at 6:30 pm
I am 38 years old. I turn 39 in one week. I grew up with the show and moved to Dallas. Make the movie!!!
September 23rd, 2008 at 6:26 pm
I am 27 and I am a Dallas addict! I grew up in Arlington, TX, a suburb of Dallas/Ft. Worth. I never watched the show growing up but last year, while in Hong Kong, I bought the 1st and 2nd seasons on bootleg because I was curious about the show being from the Dallas area. I don’t really know what I was expecting but I am now hooked. I cannot wait for the next season to be released. I need my Dallas. If anyone has the last few seasons, I need them. I don’t want to wait for the DVDs
