Philip Capice, an Emmy- and Peabody Award-winning producer who served as president of Lorimar Prods., died peacefully Dec. 30 at his home in Los Angeles. He was 78.

At Lorimar, Capice executive produced 200 episodes of “Dallas” and 112 episodes of “Eight Is Enough.”

He earned his Emmy for exec producing “Sybil,” a 1976 telefilm directed by Daniel Petrie that starred Sally Field and Joanne Woodward.

Other producing credits include the miniseries “Studs Lonigan”; telefilms “The Pride of Miss Jane Pittman,” “Helter Skelter” and “A Man Called Intrepid”; and the series “Knots Landing,” “Falcon’s Crest” and “The Blue Knight.”

Capice began his broadcasting career at New York advertising agency Benton & Bowles in 1954, then was director of special programs at CBS from 1969-74, where he developed its Charlie Brown and Dr. Seuss animated features, among other programming.

He moved to Los Angeles to work as vp creative affairs at Lorimar from 1974-78, eventually becoming president of the company in 1978. Capice had an agreement with Lorimar that allowed him to produce programs through his independent company, Raven’s Claw Prods.

He retired in 1986. A native of Bernardsville, N.J., Capice was a member of the TV academy and the Caucus for Producers, Writers & Directors. He is survived by his sisters, Rosemarie, Nancy and Carolyn; his godson, Jonathan; and many nieces and nephews. A mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Bernardsville.

Warner Brothers have announced the release of Dallas: The Complete Thirteenth Season on DVD for April 13th 2010 in the US and Canada.

Synopsis: For J.R. Ewing, Season 13 is as unlucky as a steer at a Texas barbecue. He starts by lying and cheating Ewing Oil to the brink of destruction and ends by kicking and screaming in a psychiatric hospital. In between he tires of his pretty young wife, seethes while Cliff Barnes’s political star rises and bumps into a past he didn’t know he had. Meanwhile, Clayton and Miss Ellie investigate a multiple-murder mystery, folks from seasons past unexpectedly return to stir up trouble and Bobby stays busy removing J.R.’s knives from his back, chasing after a Pam look-alike, and bringing a new Mrs. Ewing to Southfork. Y’all come ’round and meet the happy couple!
